kind of a where the wild things are vibe - if little max was a club kid. this music video really does it for me.

just watched this again and got a tear in my eye...again. // 1.21.2010

Christoph Niemann does it again. // 12.07.2009

i adore this extremely witty little project from Christoph Neimann. you might have seen his I LEGO NY post a while back where he represented iconic New York City things with the classic chilren's toy - it was all over the blogosphere. his simplicity and humor is what he's best known for and some how he always manages to hit it right on the head.

here's his new york times blog, abstract city if you want to see more of his work.

the glass (poster) is half full. // 11.10.2009

these posters from because studio are a fun take on the classic saying we all know and love. being an eternal optimist, i'd opt for the yellow if i had to pick just one but good thing i don't because they definitely work better as a pair. can't wait to get mine! i hope they do another run, unfortunately right now they're sold out.

i really love the quirky coolness of this campaign by Adrian Chan for ben and jerrys. hands on. hats off.

the possibilities are endless // 11.02.2009

some one showed this to me over the weekend and i can't stop thinking about it. i really appreciate the fact that they're trying to keep the cost as low as possible because it shows that they are actually trying to create positive change and not simply looking to make a quick buck. this amazing technology could really affect the way we live our daily lives, shop, travel, and even socialize - that tag cloud when you meet someone is slightly controversial but hysterical none the less. to say that its potential is exciting would be a serious understatement. TED rocks.

THE DROP NYC // 10.23.2009

THE DROP: URBAN LANDFILL was a couple weekends ago - old news. However, definitely worth posting here because I found one of my favorite pieces of art to date. Unfortunately, i could never have it in my apartment (even if i could afford to) because its made out of melting Ring Pops - one of my favorite childhood candies. What a beautiful statement.

I've been blogging for PSFK and also started a new job at Jack Morton recently so please
accept my major apologizes for not keeping up with this. I'll be better I promise!

even her name is awesome. // 7.23.2009

this is just a small selection of Keetra Dean Dixon's inspiring work. You can see more at her website, FromKeetra. This upcoming Monday she'll be speaking as part of the ADC Young Guns @ Apple Store series in SoHo and I am so excited to hear what she has to say. Stellar stuff.

"Keetra Dean Dixon is a designer and artist working under the handle FromKeetra. Her socially-themed messaging, objects & installations have gained notoriety for their friendly absurdism and whimsical tone. Dixon's work has been recognized on several fronts including a place in the permanent design collection at the SFMOMA, works exhibited for the '09 U.S. Presidential Inauguration, and an upcoming solo exhibit at London's KKOutlet." - Art Director's Club

I'm trying to refrain from writing something cheesy like "Girl Power!" but I think that really says it best.

White Box from makoto yabuki on Vimeo.

not what i was expecting from this opening sequence, but it is beautiful none the less. i found this via swissmiss, which is one of my absolute favorite design blogs. this piece is called white box and its by makoto yabuki. sort of reminds me of jen stark's paper sculptures. thoughts?

i found this tweeted by BBHLabs, definitely one of my favorite to follow on twitter these days. the stuff they post is always right on, and i agree when they say that this video is "how digital should be used."

measuring the universe at the MoMA // 6.24.2009

recently my friends and i visited the museum of modern art. i've always thought that having the option to kill some time on a monday at one of the world's greatest museums is one of many benefits to living in new york city. anyway, we happened to be there on the opening day of one of their exhibits, Measuring the Universe by Roman Ondak. It is the fourth part of the Performance Exhibition Series that is currently running. I was immediately intrigued - at first it just seemed like an big empty white room. someone quickly walked up to us and asked us if we wanted to be measured. strange question when you're not expecting it. it was then explained to us that each person coming into the room would be measured with their height, name, and date written in black marker on the bare white wall. the opportunity to have my name written on the wall of the MoMA?! obviously, i was eager to participate. i was the first to go so unfortunately they split us up by accident...usually i guess they try to keep groups together? since we were the first of many to be involved, i'm really looking forward to seeing it in a couple days/weeks/months once the walls are more populated. It's open until September 14th so if you're in the area you should definitely check it out.

these are some of our pictures followed by what it will look like in the future (taken from the MoMA website)

stop motion is the new black. // 6.11.2009

this is Bang-yao Liu's senior project done during his last year at Savannah College of Art and Design, or "SCAD" as the cool kids call it. its very impressive, and extremely time consuming. for those who aren't familiar with the stop motion process, each movement of the post-its was a different still, and then it was all put together to create the animation.

wow, this made my day. // 6.02.2009

Just received this email, after agencyspy tweeted my link (which is no doubt awesome in itself) but this made me smile.

--------

Jacquelyn,

My name is Colin Murphy and I am an aspiring Art Director just coming out of Syracuse University. I saw your book, when agengyspy posted it on twitter. AWESOME work. I look up to your well done, simplistic work as a level I hope my work will be someday. Good luck finding a job, I'm in the same process to. But with a book like that, I have no doubt you'll land at a great agency. I'm looking to be in New York too, along with every other city, so maybe someday our paths will cross.

Best,
Colin Murphy

the cover of the new yorker - from an iphone // 5.25.2009

this is incredible. the cover of june 1st's new yorker was painted by Jorge Colombo on an iphone. my favorite quote is from the art editor of the magazine saying “All too often the technology is directed in only one direction, which is to make things more tight, and this, what he did very well, is use this technology for something that is free flowing, and I think that’s what makes it so poetic and magical.” i couldn't agree more. however, its sort of strange to me, as beautiful as this image is...i feel like we're on the cusp of things completely changing. that print, an "archaic" medium that some people say is being completely phased out could be infiltrated in such a way by a completely new technology...is something notable.

what goes around comes around. // 5.18.2009

you may have already seen this. its been winning a ton of awards, but i saw it on FFFFound and then read that Big Ant International in NYC was behind it. regardless of your political beliefs or feelings about the war, you can't deny that this is an intriguing and effective anti war statement.

this logo makes me happy. // 5.14.2009

i really adore the new USA networks logo. sometimes when i'm watching shows i get sidetracked by its awesomeness. i think i might give it a little more credit than it deserves since its a second rate network i then assume it should have second rate design. but this logo is stellar. it makes my guilty pleasure television that much more enjoyable, in this case Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. don't judge.

i saw this on AnomolyNY's twitter today and just had to pass it along. nevermind the fact that i'm a little biased because the netherlands, specifically amsterdam, is my favorite place. this is an absolutely beautiful way of tracking the sms messages sent in the city on new years and queen's day. above are some screenshots of Aaron Koblin's project and a video. check it out.
